National Geographic praises Noordwijk for its dog-friendly nature: it's rare to find a separate beach for dogs and special walking routes where you can walk undisturbed with your furry friend.
Dogs in Nature Areas
In the Noordwijk Forestry (north of Noordwijk), dogs are allowed off-leash from August 15 to March 15, but they must remain under control and stay on the paths. From March 15 to August 15, they must be on a leash due to the breeding season.
The area east of the walking and cycling path through the Coepelduynen (between Noordwijk and Katwijk) and in the core area of the Coepelduynen (south of Noordwijk) is closed to dogs year-round (indicated by signs). In the rest of this area, dogs are allowed off-leash year-round, provided they stay on the paths.
For all areas around Noordwijk managed by Staatsbosbeheer, dogs must be leashed from March 15 to August 15 (breeding season).
At Landgoed Nieuw Leeuwenhorst, dogs are welcome, but must be leashed.
Dogs on the Beach
Dogs welcome and off-leash from September 1 to May 31
During this period, dogs are allowed on the entire beach of Noordwijk (except the beach at Noordvoort) and may run free. There is a clean-up requirement.
Dogs prohibited on the beach in front of both boulevards from June 1 to August 31
For hygienic reasons, dogs are not allowed on the beach in front of both boulevards.
During this period, dogs are only allowed on the beach north of Koningin Wilhelmina Boulevard: between exit 21 and beach pole 80.500.
Dog Beach: dogs welcome and off-leash from January 1 to December 31
From exit 1 southward to the border of the municipality of Katwijk, a special dog beach is designated. Dogs are welcome here year-round and do not need to be leashed. However, there is a clean-up requirement.
Dogs in Restaurants
Dogs are welcome in Noordwijk at the following restaurants: La Galleria, De Harmonie, 't Elfde Gebod, Bries, 't Pannenkoekenhuisje, Zeemeeuw, Koele Costa, Open Doors, Tulum, Bubbels Beach, Beach, Witsand, Lamme Goedzak, and De Botter.
NOTE! Dogs are not welcome at the beach pavilions from June 1 to August 31, except at Koele Costa and Bubbels Beach, where dogs are always welcome!
